As you may know, I am atheist, but I'm fine with other people's beliefs, as long as they don't force them on me.

However, there's a point when I just get downright incredulous.

I and some of my family (3 aunts, 3 uncles, older cousin, and grandparents) were talking about history today, and I mentioned something about old myths and stuff, and my grandfather said that the Bible wasn't a myth, so I couldn't group it in with that.

I told him that sure, there are things in the Bible that are true, but there are things that aren't, as well. Just like in every other religion. Like the creation theory. I stated that it was a nice way of explaining how man came to be on Earth, but that science had proved it wrong with evolution.

I was met with opposition on ALL sides. Apparently, they don't believe in evolution. I attempted to point out the overwhelming scientific evidence that points to evolution, and they just refused to believe it.

So that means that Cro-Magnon man and the Australopithecus apparently didn't exist, and that all modern species randomly popped up in their current forms.

Like I said, I'm cool with religion, but that's just being in denial. I was like, how can all of you such learned people be SAYING this? And be totally serious about it?

I'm willing to believe that the Flood might have been based on fact, since my uncle tells me that the Black Sea is geologically recent (and apparently it's one huge body of water), and that its formation MIGHT have inspired the Flood story. MIGHT have. After all, the Atlantis legend was based on an actual event; the Menoans were wiped out by a tsunami caused by the eruption of a super volcano on an island in the Atlantic Ocean. Said island was also populated, and has since sunk beneath the ocean, possible beneath the continental plates (although I'm not so sure about that).

I believe that Jesus existed, and that he was a great man. Sometimes I even think that there really MIGHT be a god (although I'll always be doubtful.

But I am NOT willing to go against concrete evidence that is actually VERIFIABLE. All evidence points to evolution. Humans evolved from monkeys. The earliest human-esque ancestor that's been discovered is the Australopithecus (some of you may know the famous skeleton as "Lucy"). It can almost be certain that dogs evolved from wolves, even though there's still some debate about that. The mammoth is an ancestor of the elephant. Cats as we know them evolved from prehistoric cats. The alligator and crocodile evolved from the Deinosuchus and other ancient Crocodilians. And so on and so forth.

But all of my arguments were thrown aside as they continued to insist that the creation theory was right, and told me that one day I'd see that there actually IS a god. I just sort of stared around at them all in disbelief, and then went back inside.

Ugh, this is just a rant since I'm honestly in shock that my family is being so stupid about this. Honestly, how can they continue to ignore the facts and still BLINDLY insist that they're right? It's just downright stupid!
